We had just celebrated the New Year,
The shimmering of candlelight still in the air,
The soft, warm hue on her gorgeous eyes.
A couple near us lit some cigarettes,
And another downed copious amounts of booze,
An AfroPop song I can‘t remember
was playing in the background,
We both sucked at dancing,
but we danced together anyway.
Our lips met as the speakers played jazz,
And our hands locked and we pulled each other‘s hair,
Her dress shone in the moonlight with an elven lustre,
And her unbridled spirit burned like a thousand suns.
January was a ruby on a ring,
And I was silver
And she was gold.
How thoroughly bewitched we were
by each other‘s charms,
To fail so beautifully at resisting each other‘s arms.
